So with this being October and all, we here at PAUSED! thought it would be fun to give you a weekly urban legend tale each Thursday in October (ending on Halloween night...oooooo), you know just for kicks.
This week we kick it off with a classic tale...
There were two college roommates, Sarah and Jo, who also happened to be in the same science class. The teacher was in the process of reminding them about the midterm the next day when Jo remembered that she had been invited to an epic dorm party that very night. She knew she should stay in and study, but the hottest guy on campus had invited her personally, and she didn't want to miss the chance to make some real progress in claiming him for her own.
Jo had of course told Sarah all about the party and asked if she would come as well, just in case things went bad with Mr. Hottie. Sarah had no interest in going and, being a diligent student, was far more preoccupied with studying for and passing the next day's exam. Jo simply couldn't help but focus completely on the pending festivities, while Sarah was preparing for a major study date with her books.
At the end of the day, Jo spent hours getting ready for the party while Sarah started studying. Jo made one final effort to convince Sarah to come along, but she was insistent that she would study and pass the test. The girls were rather close and Jo didn't like the idea of being out having a blast, knowing she had left Sarah alone to an evening of boredom. She promised to cram later that night and in the morning with Sarah once they got back, still Sarah said no. There was only so much Jo could do to try to convince Sarah to come out for just a bit, and eventually she finally gave up.
Jo went to the party and had the time of her life with her date. She headed back to the dorm around 2 a.m. to find the lights out and the room quite. She knew Sarah had a long night of studying and decided not to wake her. She stumbled carefully in the dark, changing her clothes and climbing into bed, nervous about the midterm the next day. She decided she would wake up early to ask Sarah for a quick morning cram session after a decent night's sleep.
Later that morning, she woke up and went to wake Sarah. Sarah was lying on her stomach, apparently sound asleep. Jo rolled Sarah over to reveal her terrified face. Jo, concerned, turned on the desk lamp. Sarah's study stuff was still open and covered in blood. Sarah had been slaughtered. Jo, in horror, fell to the floor screaming and when she finally looked up she saw written on the wall in Sarah's blood: "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the lights!"
