Katie was only 18, but she had been dreaming of the day when she would marry the love of her life, Daniel, since the day they met when they were 6 years old. Although she was young, her family knew the love Katie and Daniel had for one another and gave their whole-hearted consent to their marriage without a second thought. As Katie thought about the wedding plans, there was one part that she didn't have to think long about, the venue. So, she decided she wanted to hold the wedding in the backyard of the large farmhouse where she grew up. It held so many memories for the two of them, and as she expected if proved to be the perfect setting and the wedding went off without a hitch.
Afterwards as the guests trickled out and only a few of Katie and Daniel's closest friends remained, someone suggested a game of hide-and-seek. Katie, Daniel and their friends had spent many summer hours running through the large farmhouse and grounds playing the game as children. So it seemed like a fitting end to the perfect day spent reminiscing about the past, and dreaming about the future.
It was quickly decided that Daniel would of course be "it," and so the game began. Katie knew the perfect hiding place. She had found it years ago looking through her mom's old things in the attic, and old storage trunk. Katie quickly slipped into the house and ran up to the attic, found the old trunk and hid in it.
As the groom went about the house and grounds finding all their hidden friends, he noticed quickly that the one person who was still missing was his wife Katie. They searched for hours and could not find her. The next day, Daniel and Katie's parents called the police, thinking the worst. They filed the missing person's report, but as years passed without a word, they gave up the search and tried to move on with their lives, completely clueless as to what could have possibly happened to Katie.
A few years later when her mother died, Katie's father went to go through his late wife's things that were collecting dust in the attic. He came to an old trunk. The lid was closed and the old lock was rusted over and holding it closed. He opened the lid and was terrified to see his daughter's decaying body in the chest. When she hid there, the lid had closed, and the rusty parts of the lock had latched together, trapping her there. It is assumed that when Katie heard everyone looking for her, she simply assumed that the game was still on. However as time passed and she tried to open the trunk, she could not. She died in the trunk, her face still pleading for her family to hear her and help her.
