If your alarm clock is the engine noise of a V12 and your morning cup of drink is gasoline, with a pinch of oil. Than you are a true gear head and XBOX ONE's Forza Motorsport 5 is the game you have to own. With the release of Xbox One comes a new generation of graphics, sound and just pure enjoyment. Forza 5 has outdone its predecessor Forza 4, because sometimes the subtle things make all the difference.
A CAR FOR EVERYONE
With the introduction of Forza 5 you are immersed into another word of having your dream garage. Some say two cars are enough for one person. Forza 5 disagrees wholeheartedly. They have done it right, and given you 200 cars, right off the bat. The game invites you to drive some of your favorite iconic classics and anything in between. From European grand tourers to ear ripping Italian supercars, the game's got it all. Now where Forza 4 introduced convertibles from their Down-loadable content (DLC), Forza 5 has introduced the Ariel Atom V8. Its just a car's exoskeleton attached to an engine. Sound fun? Oh it is, and this time, you get it off the bat.
details, details, details
Forza 5 has kept the acclaimed Autovista mode, where you can view the entire view inside and out. It does not disappoint, the detail is just amazing. I could even read the smallest print on some of the F1 steering wheels. Forza 4 gave us a small appetizer of these detailed views but with Forza 5 its astonishing. Ever wonder why cars have to change their tires so much during races? They all look the same, right? Afraid not, with Forza 5’s amazing attention to detail you can also view the tires of the F1 cars and see the waves in the rubber that were just on the track.
Autovista is a place where you go to relax and try out some of the most interesting colors schemes that have been introduced. Some of which I’m glad I don’t see in the real world but in the world of Forza 5 even having wood as a color scheme is possible.
The attention to detail does not stop there. What makes a racing game a racing game is having everything enhanced. Some racing games stop at ten, Forza 5 goes to eleven. Beyond the beautiful paints jobs, the brake lights are much more realistic. Those LED brake lights, blidingly bright. If you like to trade paint with other cars than you will be able to see and remember what color the car you had just scraped up against was a few hundered feet back. And finally, the engine noise that this game produces should have its own sound track. It's simply phenomenal.
TO EACH, THEIR OWN
Just like how every person has their own personality. It can be said the same about the cars in Forza 5. What makes this racing universally challenging and very successful is the way how each car feels when you drive it. Not every car can go the same speed, or take a corner the same way. In Forza 5 along with the new Xbox One Controller it’s a complete game changer. The way that Forza 5 makes you feel the weight of the car as your driving is remarkable. For example the fact that your driving a 2-ton Bentley Continental SuperSpeed is astonishing. It feels like your thumbs and your pointer fingers are almost pushed to their limits if you try to come to a complete stop going from 140mph; it does that a lot longer than you expect. Add the haptic triggers that give you feedback when you press on the gas pedal or break hard makes a huge difference and will change your racing characteristics as well.
Ever get tired of the multiplayer scene? Trying to figure out why someone would paint their car matte pink? Has Forza 5 got a surprise for you.
Forza 5 introduces us to a new system that challenges you as you progress through its single player. Forza 5 will place you against opponents (not real multiplayer people) that race accordingly to your style. Basically, the game is a learning machine. This new system brings back the joy of racing by yourself. The improved AI’s are unpredictable. They don’t take the conventional smooth corners anymore. The single players feels as if you are racing against real people, but your not. Let’s just say that the AI’s are not very gentleman like anymore.
With each race you win the AI becomes harder and harder, even if you replay the same race. The AI will try to learn how to win the race. The being said; you will become a better racer and appreciate the game more all because of the “training” from the AI.
However, you can of course go the easy way and tune the difficulty to fit your skill. You just need to finish in the to three to earn gold. If you want to make things more interesting or challenging try turning off the assists . This will earn you more XP and more money through your campaign.
Some of the racing scenes from Forza 5 are priceless. The colors and the sound, plus the dynamics of this game are mesmerizing. But this is more than just a game. It is a destination for the gear head; those that obsess or dream about cars. Racing these cars whether be old school or a high performance machine has never felt or looked this good on a console. I still race around in Forza 4, but for a gear head like myself it is impossible for me not to own this game. It is a must buy for any person who loves cars and could very much be “the game” for the Xbox one. Forza 5 earns a 9/10.
