Over the weekend I took a chance, a big chance. I was fighting with my inner 12 year old, whether or not I should go see the new movie Pacific Rim. Regrettably, my inner 12 year old won this battle. I feel like I should ground my inner self next time it tells me to go see a movie about robots and Godzilla-like monsters.
If you want to see this movie, don’t expect the script to excite you. There are a few good chuckles and laughs here and there, but truly this movie is just about the robots and graphics. The graphics were awesome, great detail was done for each individual robot. Each robot had its own identity that resembled the characters that piloted these goliaths.
The movie itself describes how these monsters (Kaiju) show up and try to destroy mankind, and mankind goes toe to toe with these monsters. We decide to build robots (Jager’s) to beat down the beasts. The only problem is that with each battle that the humans win. The monsters come back more evolved, more frequently and more of them appear at once. Luckily, being intelligent as we are; the humans come up with a plan to end this attack from the Kaiju.
As I stated before, if you go see this movie don’t expect an amazing performance from the actors or the script, but as my inner 12 year old self watched the movie I didn’t care I just wanted to watch giant robots and giant monsters fight it out.
But without a doubt if you have children or if your child is screaming to go see this movie; you should go. Just pretend it’s in a different language and enjoy robots fighting monsters. If a movie is going to be over 2 hours long, the script should have a descent plot and not have so many cheesy quotes; however the special effects were great to watch. A part of me wishes that I would’ve seen this movie in an IMAX theater because the special effects were that good, but special effects can’t only do so much for a film. Overall, I would rate this movie a 4 out 10.
